A lot of times in parkour training the emphasis is on doing a big movement or doing a flashy movement that looks good on video. There have been instances where people have tried to do a move 15 to 20 times and that would be the end of the entire training session. While this practice has its place in overall training in an environment, this cannot be the base upon which one can train.
For me often, the training for a day reverts back to the most fundamental of exercises or movements that I have done thousands of times. Not every training has to be at the maximum or not every session has to be most effective. At times one can enjoy the training simply for the purpose of the training. While there is a toxic culture that keeps talking of maximum effort all the time, something that I have always enjoyed is the simplest of trainings based on how I felt at that moment.
Training is about longevity and being able to continue for a life time. It is also about the physical , mental and emotional health that comes with training. It is the simple aspects of training that keeps you moving forward. While the intense sessions can give greater progress in short bursts, the intelligence as a parkour athlete is in making the right choices to train simple or go hard.
